Tell Governor Polis: Early Childhood Education Funding is a Critical First Step in Fixing Colorado's Broken School Finance System

If you agree with us that quality early childhood education is critical and that the state should make sure full-day kindergarten is tuition-free to parents who choose it, you'll want to join us in thanking Governor Jared Polis for making full-day Kindergarten and an expansion of preschool slots one of his Administration's first and highest priorities.

His proposal supports districts in offering free full day kindergarten to families across the state, and provides funding relief for the 140 districts already providing kindergarten.

As a public education supporter, I want to thank you for making full-day kindergarten a funding priority in Colorado. Our districts have long prioritized early childhood education and the funding relief your proposal offers is a great first step in ensuring the long-term success of students.

Your proposal is also an important first step toward reversing decades of chronic underfunding in our public schools. With full-day kindergarten in place for all of our students, we have a greater opportunity to close the gap between the highest and lowest achieving Colorado students.

Imagine the potential if this additional funding were coupled with the structural fix necessary to fully fund Colorado public schools. We could attract and retain great teachers and professionals for all grade levels who are well-trained to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of our increasingly diverse student populations.
